In this SSIS Tutorial I will show you how to use Slowly Changing Dimension (SCD) Transformation.
Very often SCD is critized for poor performance as SCD execute SQL command for each row however properly optimizing the table structure and using a specific pattern when developing a package with SCD Transformation can make it very fast and managable (changes).
There are many alternatives to SCD Transformation including 3rd party components however SCD Transformation is still the easiest to use, understand and implement (in my opinion). If you have mature BI team then I would recommend to also look into T-SQL Merge but only with auto generated approach (SP) which is easy to use but it uses rather complex code so it relies on in-depth skills and broad knowledge of SCD patterns to support it.
